Succeeding in something you never thought you could do on your own is a great life goal. This is one of the proudest moments I have accomplished in my life, I lost more than 25 pounds on my own. You have the choice of how you want to go on this weight loss journey by having fun with your workouts and eating tasty good food or making it a boring and dreading journey.
I’m going to share with you how I lost the weight and how today I have managed to keep the weight off!

1. LOVE YOUR BODY FIRST!
I might sound cheesy, but it’s true! You need to love your body first. I went through two attempts to lose weight, and in my first attempt, I did not succeed because I mainly wanted to lose weight to be skinny. I had very low self-esteem of myself, and I wanted to lose weight for the wrong reasons which I ended in losing a few pounds, but the pounds came back. In my second attempt, I wanted to be healthy and give my body the nutrients it was lacking. This time I wanted to feel healthy and give my body the proper healthy lifestyle change it needed. Of course, my second attempt at losing weight worked for me, and it started with loving my body before transforming it.
Instead of picking flaws about yourself and hating your body, how about start owning your body now and whom you were created to be. I challenge you, every day find something you love about your body and as each day goes by the number of things you love of your body goes up.

2. DRINK WATER!
When people asked me how I’m losing weight, I said, “by drinking a lot of water.” Even today I’m constantly drinking water because it became a healthy habit. There are so many benefits to drinking water; for example, it helps you feel satisfied, helps with weight loss, helps your skin, and many other reasons. At first, it can be challenging because you can be drinking a lot of water and then by the fourth day you forget and start consuming unhealthy drinks. As weird as it may sound, I first got into the habit of drinking water by purchasing a cute water bottle. I don’t know about you, but I love cute stuff, and I found myself drinking more water just by drinking out of a super cute bottle. Today I use a 40-oz. water bottle and it helps me stay hydrated throughout the day, I refill it about three to four times a day, and I can't leave the house without it. I take my bottle to trips, schools, errands, and anywhere I need to go. It’s extremely important to drink water because it will fill you up. I also recommended drinking water before you eat your meals, which can get you to feel fuller faster.

3. PLATE SIZE
Before continuing, I don’t encourage starvation and leaving yourself feeling hungry. It’s so crucial to listen to your body and give it what it needs.
I love food! I may be a short gal, but I can defiantly eat a lot! Another tip that I can give is choosing a decent plate that's not too big because when we have a big plate, we tend to fill it up until there’s no room. When you use a medium size plate, obviously you will have less food on there. During my weight loss, I stopped using big plates and switched to using small to medium plates so I would feel less guilty going back for seconds but having good portion control at the same time! Of course, If I were still hungry, I would go back and eat more of the healthier stuff and a lot less of the unhealthy, and I would feel satisfied right after. The plate size helped me control my portions and how much I was able to put on my plate, but it's important to eat if you're still hungry and try choosing more of the healthier food options.

4. CHOOSE THE KIND OF WORKOUT YOU LOVE!
Throughout my weight loss journey, this was my favorite part of it. Many people HATE working out, and today, I don’t feel the same way in fact I love my workouts! And you are probably like “huh, how!?”. First of all, experiment with different kinds of workouts and find the one you enjoy doing the most. I like upbeat music and kickboxing, so when I found out about Turbofire, I was OBSESSED. Once I purchased the workout, working-out was the highlight of my day! No joke, but I did Turbo fire for 4 years now, and I still do it today and have so much fun. Of course, I’m not telling you to buy Turbofire or buy an expensive workout set but what I am telling you is to find a workout that you will be obsessed with in a healthy way of course (: By finding that workout, you will look forward to doing it and help you stay motivated.

5. WHO SAYS HEALTHY FOOD NEEDS TO BE BORING AND BLAND??
Now, this may be the hardest part about losing weight because we love tasty and delicious food, but when you're trying to shed the pounds sometimes we fear to say goodbye to all the yummy food, and that doesn't have to be true. I made myself a plan that from Monday thru Saturday I would eat healthily but If my sweet tooth came out, then I would have a little bit of something sweet. Sundays are my cheat days, which there are fewer restrictions for only one day of the week. This eating plan I created for myself has been working for years, so create a plan for yourself, how are you going to change your eating habits? I didn’t entirely remove much of my favorite sweets or salty foods; I just didn’t have it as often. It’s important to make your food enjoyable, it does not have to be plain and boring, so find some good seasonings or new replacements for unhealthy snacks. For example, I love eating chips, and I found out there were some healthier chips that taste like Lemon lays expect it had vinegar and salt, and it was a healthier version of Lays. Another healthier option of ice cream is from the brand HALO; now I know it does not taste as great as regular ice cream, but it can help with your sweet tooth and cravings. Make foods that are healthy for your body and put a twist and make it delicious; however, you want.

6. HEALTHY LIFESTYLE VS DIET
I decided to stop using the word “diet” through my weight loss journey because to me; the word diet somehow seems like a temporary goal. Instead, I thought my weight loss journey as a healthy lifestyle change. And you're probably like what is your point? If you want to lose weight and keep the pounds off, then it should be a lifestyle change because you want permanent changes to change the way you eat and stop eating unhealthy food. When I hear someone say, “I’m going to be on a diet” in my head I think they're going to eat healthy for a few months and then stop at some point. I prefer to call it a healthy lifestyle change because to me its about making those lasting changes to help you lead into healthy eating habits but not restricting yourself from having a few sweets once in a while. It’s okay if you disagree with me on this, this is just one of the ways how I changed my mindset into changing how I ate to be able to lose weight, and today I continue my eating style as a healthy lifestyle change.

7. FINDING YOUR MOTIVATION!
No ones weight loss journey is going to be easy, we all face our own obstacles, but it's our choice whether we move on forward or give up halfway when we were almost close to our goal. I definitely had some moments where I wanted to eat a box of pizza and even today there days when I don’t want to workout and prefer to stay in bed and watch Netflix. Find your motivation that helps you keep moving forward; for me, it was watching motivation fitness videos on YouTube and reading quotes off from Pinterest. It doesn't matter what you do to keep you motivated as long as you don’t quit, it's okay to take a rest day if you’re really sore but don’t let that rest day end up becoming rest days. Make it a habit to workout regularly, and as long as you keep persisting soon you'll see changes in your body, and it'll motivate even more to keep moving forward!

These are the tips that helped me lose more than 25 pounds, it may not be a lot, but since I'm five feet it definitely showed on my body. I never once starved myself, restricted myself from having sweets or eating pizza; it's all about balancing your food choices. Don’t be strict on yourself and enjoy your weight loss journey, as I mentioned before it's up to you whether you enjoy the process or not.
